Do you have Japanese Puzzle Erasers?

Yes!  Though we don't sell these on line, we have a huge selection of puzzle erasers made in Japan.  They are tiny replicas of all types of items like a hamburger, milkshake, koala bear, dolphin, truck, and bunny just to name a few.  They are fun to collect and cost only a dollar!!

 Do you give discounts?

Yes!!  In addition to the many discounts we give throughout the year and on special occasions, we have a standard local coupon you can find in the “Local Deals Magazine” that goes out to our community 4 times a year.  Locals can clip the coupon here or print one out on localdealsmagazine.com.  This discount coupon is good for in-store purchases only.  Watch our website for specials and discounts too!

Do you ever have fun?

Fun??  Did someone say FUN?  We know how to have fun at Durango Toy Depot.  Owners, Betty and LouAnn are just kids at heart!!  We love to get out the toys and play with kids of all ages that visit the store.  Any time you come by you'll see us on the sidewalk loading the stomp rocket for the next jumper!!  Inside we will have out the poppers for a little game of hide and pop!  Or maybe a game of FastTrack!  You never know what we're up to. 

After all...we are the 3D, hands-on-happening kind of experience in historic downtown Durango!!!

16th Annual AIDS Benefit Run/Walk/Bike for the Whole Family When: Sat, September 21, 9am – 1pm Where: Rotary Park, 1565 E. 2nd Ave., Durango, CO 81301 (map) Description:  Run/Bike/Walk events for the whole family, including  a picnic and ceremony to follow at Rotary Park.  Distances/event: Fun Run/Walk – 1.6 k Run/Walk –  6 k Bike Ride – 4 or 8 miles All proceeds will help to  fund AIDS education and prevention.       Leave (hahahaha) your troubles behind and take a nice long walk to admire the trees adapting to the changing of the seasons!

What do the toys do when the store is closed?

Well, we like to think that all the toys play as much as we do! All the Breyer Horses gallop around the store like its the Kentucky derby and all the puppets host a Karaoke contest. The poppers have an all out battle against each other while the Calico Critters cheer on their favorite teams. The Harmonicas like to play catchy tunes and the airplanes loop-da-loop to the music. There are magic tricks and cars underfoot; nanoblocks building themselves and blinking light shows from the bike brightz. The dinosaur train rumbles across the floor and the conductor yells "ALL ABOARD!!"

 It really is quite exciting here once we lock the doors and the toys play and play until they are just too tired. Then they head back to their homes in the store and snuggle up. The stuffed animals will read a bed time story to everyone, then the toys will drift into sleep where they will have the sweetest dreams and rest up for the next day.

Manna Soup Kitchen

Who is Manna and what do they do for our community?

 

"Manna serves breakfast, lunch, sack lunches and hot dinners to go Monday through Friday, and hot brunch and sack lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Our clients include the working poor, individuals, families, children, the elderly, and the homeless.  Our sack lunch program fills the County’s Department of Human Services gaps by supplementing the food stamp program and school lunch program.   Manna collaborates with business partners and other non-profits that provide food to their clients. Manna helps stock the Silverton Food Bank and re-distributes excess fresh and canned donations to the Food Bank, VOA Shelter, Safehouse, Hilltop House, Loaves and Fishes in Pagosa Springs, and Mercy Housing.

 

In 2013 Manna expects to:
Serve 68,000 meals, provide 20,600 sack lunches, distribute 1200 hygiene packs, and provide 6 students with internship opportunities." 

That's alotta stuff for Manna to do! So we at Durango Toy Depot play a miniscule part in all of this by volunteering at Taste of Durango. Sure, we take our toys and some games so people can play games and win prizes but more importantly, we donate all we do at the Taste of Durango so that Manna Soup Kitchen can continue their work in our community. 

Durango is a great place to live, it's also a great place to eat!

These 2 toys all have something in common with WW II.... do ya know this part of history?

                         Slinky was a spring designed to help stabilize the gauges on Battleships.... then someone discovers how much fun they are to play with!

Whoopee Cushions became very scarce during WW II because the same latex used to make these ghastly toys was needed for war supplies!
