Teddy Bears
These snuggly little guys got their name from our 26th president Theodore Roosevelt? He was out and about trying to settle some border disputes in 1902 when in his spare time he decided to go on a bear hunt. Later that week, a cartoon artist sketched a doodle that pictured the President next to a bear cub.
In the coming year, Morris Mitcham owned a novelty store in New York sold bears that his wife Rose made. Morris sent a bear to President Roosevelt asking permission to use his name and call the bear a Teddy Bear. Theodore happily said yes and thus the Teddy Bear was born and is here to stay!
Stop by Durango Toy Depot to see all the different Teddy Bears that we have.
Thank you President Roosevelt for naming the Teddy Bear!
