Did Ya Know?

When were Bunk Beds Invented?
Here's one theory....When a wealthy lord traveled,in Europe around 1400-1500 he did so by cart. The cart was made for sleeping and had something like a sleeping room in them. This cart was called a truckle bed. The description evolved into the more modern "Bunk Bed".

Theory #2
The American cowboys who worked on ranches, lived in "bunk houses", which contained beds that were on stilts and on top of one another with just enough room to lay on the mattress. in order to conserve room.
Large ranches would have had bunk beds in the "line shacks", as 2 cowboys would have been needed to check the extensive property lines and make any needed repairs to the barbed-wire fences.
Theory #3
They were used in ancient times to provide sleeping space for people on board ship, where space was very tight. There's no record of when they came on land, but probably some sailor decided if he had four kids to put in one bedroom, bunks like the ones he'd used on shipboard were the answer to his problem.
